Number one, most frequently asked question in QuickBooks:
How do I back-up a file?
First it is important to understand some basics here. When you work on your QuickBooks, you are in a QBW file, or QuickBooks Working file. When you back-up a file, your QuickBooks data is compressed into an unusable format in order to save space. It has the appendage QBB, or QuickBooks Back-up.
You cannot open a QBB file straight from e-mail. You must RESTORE the file while in your QuickBooks program. This changes it from a QBB appendage to a QBW appendage
Here is how you back-up:
- Switch to single-user mode (from the File menu), if necessary
- Click File, then Back-up
- Choose a location - click Browse next to location
|
|
- If you want to store it on a disk, click A:\
- If you want to store it on a drive in your computer, click Drive "X":\
- If you want to e-mail the file, store it on C:\
|
- Hit OK
- Look for the message that says "Your data has been successfully backed up".
- Congratulations! You have now created a compact QBB file for storage and emailing.
|
To E-mail the file:
- Start a new message
- Attach the file which is stored in your C drive. NOTE: the file will have an appendage ".QBB".
- Send the e-mail.
